Dr. Katherine O’Donnell
Has been a board certified general surgeon since 2000. During that time she has transitioned to the single focus of breast disease and recently became the Medical Director of the nationally accredited Windsong Breast Care (WBC) program. She received her BS in Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Binghamton and attended Saint Louis University for a postgraduate degree in Pharmacology. She graduated summa cum laude from the Buffalo School of medicine and Biomedical Sciences where she obtained her medical degree. While receiving her surgical training, Dr. O’Donnell participated in funded research and produced publications and abstracts. Multiple alwads have been granted to her with the most recent in 2011, Business First’s Health Care 50 Award. She maintains active memberships with the Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons and participates in the nationwide Mastery of Breast Surgery Program.
Dr. O’Donnell’s commitment to patients and community is evident by her lead on a bi-weekly Question and Answer session for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. This one of a kind meeting affords breast cancer patients and families the opportunity to speak with members of the Windsong Breast Care team shortly after their diagnosis. As Medical and Radiation Oncologists, Pathologists, and local referring physicians.
During her time off she enjoys sailing, gardening and traveling.
Michael Peyser, MD, FACS
Joined Windsong Breast Care as a board certified surgeon with an extensive medical background in surgical oncology. Dr. Peyser received his medical degree and completed his surgical residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School. After medical school, Dr. Peyser completed a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and was a clinical instructor through the University at Buffalo School of Medicine. Prior to joining Windsong Breast Care, he practiced surgical oncology in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia for ten years, and was part of a large, multi-specialty group at Hampton Roads Surgical Specialists in Newport News and Williamsburg. He was also a clinical professor and instructed students and residents in Surgical Oncology and General Surgery at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Dr. Peyser was the recipient of several outstanding achievement awards from the Commission on Cancer, American College of Surgeons and was recognized by the Hampton Roads magazine as a Top Doc. He has written and presented numerous articles relative to health and cancer, organized the Breast Cancer Program at Riberside Regional Medical Center, proctored other surgeons in techniques of breast cancer surgery, and formed committees to align physicians and the hospital with the cancer needs of patients.
Dr. Peyser is continually researching and implementing new practices and is committed to providing the most progressive breast cancer treatment and care for his patients in a multi-modality fashion.
Judy Lemmon, ANP-C
Joined the breast center team with over twenty years of experiences providing care to patients with breast cancer. She completed her training as an Adult Nurse Practitioner in 1999 continuing her surgical and oncology experience. During her career she has worked with some of the leading medical and surgical oncologists in the area, gaining an expertise in clinical are of breast disease patients. She has had a role with pharmaceutical advisory boards and serves as a mentor to the clinical staff. She works closely with the breast surgeons to evaluate breast disease patients, completing a diagnostic work up, creating treatment plans and the necessary surveillance options.
During her time off Judy enjoy running and spending time with family.
Kathleen Thomas, FNP
Has spent her career taking care of patients with a specialized focus on medical oncology. She earned her Nurse Practitioner degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1997 and is ANCC Certified. She provides follow up care for post operative breast disease patients in the breast surgeons office. She stays current in her knowledge of medical and surgical oncology by working as a Clinical Nursing Instructor for the State University of New York at Buffalo at the Roswell location.
During her time off she enjoys reading, walking and golfing.
Laura Fisher, MC, CGC
Is a board certified genetic counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
Ms. Fisher is a WNY native who is dedicated to providing cancer genetic counseling to patients. Her goals are to educate, provide risk assessments and explain genetic test results to high risk screening patients, as well as patients with a current cancer diagnosis. Ms. Fisher serves as treasurer of the New York State Genetic Counselor Licensure Task Force, In addition to being a regional lecturer, she teaches first year medical students , at the University of Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and was nominated for an award in teaching excellence . Ms. Fisher received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the New York State University of New York at Geneseo and received her Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling form Boston University. Prior to joining Windsong , she provided genetic counseling to patients at Women’s and Children Hospital in Buffalo.
